GIANTS RIDGE BELOW ZERO IN 2022!
FEBRUARY 18 – 20
Friday, 34 Yodelers jumped on the motorcoach headed to the Friendly Giant and the Quality Inn, downtown Virginia, MN, which became our home for 2 nights. Several nearby restaurants and watering holes offered good fun!
Saturday, the day started out at minus 17 temp and we left for The Giant with 32 skiers ready to attack the slopes. When we arrived, the temps had warmed to zero. We received our group tickets & rentals and had breakfast before the lifts started. Up and down the trails we flew, and the cross-country skiers circled the area in several trips. Stopping for a couple of breaks and hot drinks, we skied until 3 pm. Temps reached 6 or 8 above Saturday. No complaints on weather, and skiers agreed that it was not that cold skiing. I will ski with that crew any day – I hate complainers!
Saturday at 5:15pm, we left for our group dinner at Boomtown in Eveleth, MN. We were seated right away and must have sampled the entire menu. We give Boomtown 5 stars! On our return to Virginia, several skiers visited the local hot spots to shoot pool and have some drinks and laughs. The rest of the skiers found their rooms, to get ready for another full day on Sunday.
On Sunday, we left Virginia for another day of skiing and the temps were forecast in the 20’s which had everybody smiling. We skied until 3 pm and at 3:30, had dinner at The Lodge at Giants Ridge. A group picture was taken before we boarded the bus for home, retuning to Maplewood by 9:30pm.
We’ll ski the Giant again! Yodelers have started planning another weekend ski trip for 2023!
