For forty-six years the MSC has offered Hearing Impaired children a chance to participate in the sport of skiing, and snowboarding was added in January, 2010. We will again offer the program of instruction to beginning and intermediate skiers/snowboarders in our area. It is a way that we can give someone else a chance to enjoy the sport that we love.
Clinics for new instructors will start in December 2023; and the student lessons will begin in early January. The Sunday sessions run five mornings, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
The program takes place at Hyland Hills Ski Area in Bloomington. Equipment and lift tickets are provided for students at a minimal cost, and lift tickets are free for interpreters and qualified instructors who have completed the mandatory training clinic. The people involved in this program donate their time for teaching and other assistance as needed; non-MSC members are
also more than welcome.
It is not necessary to have previous instructor experience. Two three-hour clinics for instructors will be held at the beginning of the program. These clinics will also add to your skiing/boarding skills. Anyone with intermediate or better ability can qualify as an instructor. Instructions are geared specifically to each student’s ability.
Interpreters will be available on the hill to provide assistance during the lessons.
Consider volunteering to instruct or interpret in this season’s program.
