Colorado Lawmakers Revive SHRED Act in Congress in an Effort to Keep Ski Area Fees Flowing Locally. Colorado congressmen are taking another shot at keeping revenue from ski area fees in the local communities where resorts operate. U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, a Colorado Democrat, reintroduced the Ski Hill Resources for Economic Development, or SHRED Act, for the third time. Bennet was joined by co-sponsor Sen. John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican, and several other lawmakers in bringing it to the U.S. Senate. Colorado Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse and Rep. A-Basin Ski Patrollers Vote to Unionize. Members of the Arapahoe Basin ski patrol voted 30-22 in favor of unionizing. If the results are certified by the National Labor Relations Board, the Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol Union (ABSP) will join the Communication Workers of America (CWA) 7781 United Mountain Workers, which will represent ABSP in contract negotiations with A-Basin’s new owner, Alterra Mountain Company. Hotel Fire in Turkish Ski Resort Kills at Least 66. A predawn January fire at a hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Turkey killed at least 66, with another 51 injured, Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. The resort is located in Northwestern Turkey’s Koroglu mountains, about 185 miles east of Istanbul. More. SAM
Lift Detaches at Attitash, One Injured. On Feb. 2, a carrier with one rider aboard detached from the Flying Bear lift at Attitash Mountain. The carrier fell approximately 20 feet. Lift Failure Injures 15 at Spain Ski Area. A chairlift failure injured more than a dozen people Saturday morning at Astún resort in the Spanish Pyrenees.
