Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve been here.
We had a wonderful cross -country ski weekend at the Cedar Valley Resort in Lanesboro, just south of Rochester. We enjoyed skiing, tubing, broom ball on the ice, many fabulous meals and lots of evening socializing.
Our annual downhill ski trip was to South Lake Tahoe this year, where we stayed in condos right next to the lift at Heavenly Valley. We had beautiful weather and lots and lots of snow.
In the spring, we decided to try a warm trip and 13 of us traveled to Roatan, Honduras for snorkeling and scuba diving. Three people on the trip took scuba lessons, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the sun, water and many wonderful local restaurants. We also indulged in zip-lining and wandering along the beaches. Our house also had kayaks and paddle boards to use in the adjoining bay. We will definitely do that again, hopefully in 2024 to another wonderful destination.
Our members continue to volunteer every other month at our local food bank, which is lots of fun, and we have movie nights, happy hours, campouts and parties.
Our dear friend, Bob Kershaw, passed away Sunday, July 15th at St. Mary’s Hospital after a long illness. Bob was a member of Sitzmark Ski Club from 1976 until around 2013. He ran many ski trips for the MSC and hosted the MSC Winter Carnival for several years. Bob spent the last three years living here in Rochester where we spent a lot of time with him, supporting him through his many hospital stays, and even helped furnish his apartment. He will be missed by all.
We have two ski trips planned for next winter. The main one will be to Banff, Alberta, Canada, January 27 to February 3, 2024. All transportation and lodging are being arranged by trip coordinator, Tim Troxel. This is open to MSC members.
Our other trip is to Breckenridge, CO. Lodging has been reserved for Residence Inn by Marriott in Breckenridge for Sunday, March 31 to Friday, April 5, 2024. Transportation would need to be arranged individually.
These trips are both open to MSC members. Any inquiries can be directed to Tim Troxel, timtroxel@msn.com.
Tim hosted another great pig roast recently, which was enjoyed by all. He and Bill roasted an 80-pound pig this time. We had a beautiful day to enjoy the food and camaraderie.
