The Ullr summer picnics have come to an end. Weather was perfect for a rafting trip on the Mississippi River with Three Rivers Park District staff.
A bike ride in Stillwater was cut down to only about 7 miles due to all the storm damaged trees preventing passage on the trail.
We did return to Stillwater another day to enjoy a 45-minute narrated trolley tour! Stillwater has so many stories of history and old mansions. Did you know Stillwater was once part of Wisconsin? The Lowell Inn hosted us after the trolley ride for “Afternoon Tea”.
August 9th was a bike and social event out on the lake in Silver Lake. Rain cancelled the bike ride but the sun came out in time for the afternoon social potluck. This event, by a long-time Ullr, has been done every couple of years since 1985.
Weather threatened again the following week but didn’t stop our scenic bike ride and social in Scandia. Our hosts gave us a tour of their old log cabin on the river which has had a few renovations keeping it new but reflecting the days when the cabin was first built.
A first for 12 of us was a Water Taxi ride from Boom Island on the Mississippi River. Green Gables Inn in Lanesboro was the stage for our annual bike around Preston, Peterson and Fountain, Minnesota. And, there always has to be a stop in Whelan at the Aroma Pie Shoppe!
